My Wellness Routine

2020–what a year you guys. I feel like this is the crucial time to  focus on our wellbeing as best we can. I’ve made a concerted effort to dive into wellness and think of what I’d like to get out of life by being my healthiest and happiest self. Wellness can mean a variety of things, though. It’s not all about fitness and nutrition, it’s about the mind and spirit too.

During these past few months, I’ve been sure to put wellness first in order to bring the best version of myself to the table moving forward. I know that a lot of us don’t feel like there’s a light at the end of the tunnel just yet, but as long we keep a positive attitude and try to improve our lives, we’ll get to a better place mentally–at least. Ahead you’ll find a breakdown of my current wellness routine and I hope you share your own with me too!

Set My Morning Intentions

I’m all about setting intentions and practicing positive affirmations. Without these, I don’t feel like I’m setting myself up for success in the mornings and I like to approach both as soon as I start my day. Intentions are so personal, and they change every single day depending on what’s going on in my life. A common theme of my intentions as of late has been being less hard on myself. We’re living in a situation that’s entirely out of control, and no one should punish themselves for it. Below are some intentions I’ve set for myself.

  • To be present in the moment
  • To show up for myself
  • To go with the flow
  • To be selective with my time
  • To be kinder to myself
  • To allow room for mistakes
  • To work to my full potential

Fitness

Last week I shared my newfound love for running with you all. I’ve always made it a point in my life to be as active as possible, but running was somewhat intimidating. I put myself to the test and found that I genuinely enjoy running and it makes me feel like my best self. However, these summer days can get super hot, so opt for a leisurely walk instead. Sometimes I’ll set up a scavenger hut with the kiddos outside and count that as my physical activity for the day. It’s all about finding ways to move your body, stretch, and get those endorphins going.

Shower & Skincare Routine

When it comes to my skincare routine, I like to keep it pretty simple. Some people indulge in a lengthy routine and I love that! That’s the beauty of a skincare routine, everyone has their preference and does whatever makes them feel good. My daily go-to? A face serum, under eye cream, and moisturizer.  Another part of my self care routine is making my shower time a calming, meditative experience. I add fresh eucalyptus and let the steam release all those essential oils. I’ll take a few deep breaths and give myself a moment to reflect and feel gratitude.

Hydration & Nutrition

Wellness works from the inside out. I’m sure you’ve heard it all before–what you put inside your body shows on the outside. With that being said, I’m being more conscious of my water intake and ensuring that I stay hydrated for my overall wellness. We have made an effort to be as environmentally conscious at home, so I assigned every member in our house their own reusable water bottle and replaced plastic with glass bottles in our fridge for guests or when we’re on the go. We have seen a drastic difference in our water intake and our waste use. Here are some of my favorite reusable bottles that come in so many fun colors!

I’m also a relatively healthy eater, and always incorporate nutritious foods to my meals. I started to implement meatless Mondays in to our weekly rotation and choosing to do 1-2 vegan meals a week. Not only is it better for the environment, but we’ve had a lot of fun exploring new meals together as family. I’ve been loving recipes from my new favorite cookbook, Mississippi Vegan

Floral Arrangements

Find one hobby or one activity that isn’t work related. For me, thats creating floral arrangements. It’s a new hobby that I’ve picked up over quarantine and I love how much peace and happiness it gives me. It’s an activity that I can do that’s not work related and also serves as a fun bonding activity with the kiddos. I feel like our society is teaching us that hobbies have to turn into side hustles, or use your free time being productive… but I’m here to remind you that it’s okay to do something just for fun or because it simply makes you happy.

Journal Before Bed

Another hobby I’ve picked up over the past year is journaling. I know that a lot of people are never really sure where to start with journaling, but if you let your ideas and thoughts flow, you’re already doing a great job. I find this to be a big part of my wellness routine, because it exercises my mind. I love recapping on what I learned that day and letting out any emotions that arose as the hours passed. If you’re into the idea of journaling, but unsure where to start, try a journal that has pre-written prompts for you to fill out. I really love The Five-Minute Journal!  From there, you’ll be able to freely write and express yourself a lot better.
